(WBAY Staff) Probably to the surprise of no one shopping for a home in the last year, data from the 2024 housing market in Wisconsin shows homes were less affordable.
According to WBAY Staff, the Wisconsin Realtors Association says prices rose 8.8% compared to the year before. Homes were 10% less affordable than they were in 2023 because prices went up and mortgage rates remained high while income levels remained flat.
Despite that, home sales went up 4.7% compared to the year before. Sales in December alone were 9.2% higher than in December 2023. It was a seller’s market even as new listings of homes were up 3.8% year-to-year.
Realtors also saw a sharp drop in new listings last month. The Wisconsin Realtors Association says there were 62% more closings on homes in December than there were homes newly put on the market.
The median price for a home in Wisconsin is $310,000.
