Tomah Police Say Attempted Homicide Suspect Now in Custody

(WEAU, WEAU Staff) Tomah police say an attempted homicide suspect is now in custody, according to WEAU staff.

According to Tomah police, on the evening of Jan. 6, 2025, Tomah Officers received information that 30-year-old David Hintz of Tomah, Wis. was at an address in the City of Tomah.

Tomah police say on Jan. 7, 2025, the Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit searched the home and found several people at the home. It was indicated that Hintz was likely inside the home.

Authorities attempted to communicate with Hintz, but he refused to cooperate. Hintz was found hiding in a crawl space. Hintz was not cooperative but was eventually taken into custody.

Online court records show Hintz is charged with attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide, 1st degree reckless injury, aggravated battery-intend great bodily harm, 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety, and false imprisonment.

Tomah police say this case is in relation to the case/arrest of Justin Novak. According to the Tomah Police Department, police received reports that a stabbing victim was dropped off at Tomah Health around 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 28, 2024.

The victim had serious injuries and was taken to another hospital for more intensive care. Tomah police say the stabbing happened on Kilbourn Avenue in Tomah.

Through their investigation, Tomah Police were led to an address on Carol Kay Street in Tomah where a suspect was found and taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Justin Novak of Tomah. Novak was taken to the Monroe County Jail.
