Withee Man Sentenced to Probation for Loyal Woman's Death

-A Withee man has been sentenced to probation for the death of a Loyal woman.Dennis Martin killed Joan Beyer when he failed to obey a yield sign and collided with Beyer?s van back in 2009. He was found guilty of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle on April 3rd of this year.
Dale Beyer, Joan?s husband, spoke asking for the maximum sentence. He said Martin ?acted carelessly? and ?acted as if the accident didn?t matter.? It was very emotional for her family and there were many tears.
Martin, who was surround by members of the Mennonite community, simply said, ?I?m sorry.?
Richard Lewis on behalf of the state didn?t ask for the maximum, but did ask for 12 to 18 months in prison with probation and having his license revoked for one year.
In the end the judge decided to withhold sentencing completely until after the 42 months of probation. However, Martin will spend 90 days in jail as a condition of probation.
Martin must also log 240 hours of community service, pay restitution, pay supervision fees, and there are other elements to his probation as well.
