Retired FBI Agent Says, "Koula Killings Not Consistent With Hit Man"

Friday, June 22nd, 2012 -- 8:17 AM

-A retired FBI agent and president of the Chicago Crime Commission, with extensive knowledge of organized crime, was brought into the Eric Koula trial to combat the professional killer defense.

James Wagner testified hit men almost always use a .38-caliber revolver or 9 mm handguns in executions.

?I have not come across an example of an organized hit where there was only one shot ? it?s always multiple shots to the head,? he testified. ?And in most instances, they empty the gun.?

Wagner also said hit men shoot from within several feet of the victim for accuracy and aren?t concerned about collecting shell casings.

?They know the gun isn?t going to be traced back to them,? he said.
No shell casings were found at the crime scene.

Assistant District Attorney Gary Fryburg asked, ?Do you have an opinion to a reasonable degree of professional certainty about how likely it is for a professional killer to get the wrong house, especially when the targeted victim's name is on a stone monument out in front of the victim's house??

?I've never heard of a situation like that and frankly the hit man would be in a lot of trouble if that happened.?
