Eric Koula Murder Trial Continues

Thursday, June 21st, 2012 -- 9:33 AM

A witness testified on Wednesday that there is no forensic evidence tying Eric Koula or anyone else to the 2010 fatal shootings of his parents.

?It is, in my opinion, very unusual in a homicide case,? defense forensic expert Max Scott said. ?There?s nothing that identifies who did it. There?s no fingerprints, no DNA, no shell casings and no bullets that can be matched to a particular firearm.?

He also said, the executions of Dennis and Merna Koula are more consistent with an ?organized doer? than a ?first timer."
But Scott testified he concluded an ?organized doer? or ?doers? were responsible after reviewing the case because of the precision of the fatal shots, both were shot only once, and the lack of witnesses, evidence or traceable firearm.

A ?first timer? often leaves behind evidence after a crime, while an ?organized doer? does not, Scott testified.

An ?organized doer? has professional training, knowledge of how evidence is deposited and recovered and familiarity with firearms and ammunition, he said.
?It?s one who is experienced or trained in committing violent acts,? Scott said.

The defense expects to rest its case today. Closing arguments are set for next week before the jurors are sequestered for deliberations.
