Computer Forensics Heavy Focus of State Attorneys in Koula Trial

Thursday, June 7th, 2012 -- 4:30 PM

-The state attorneys focused on the computer forensic evidence in the Eric Koula trial.

They spoke with Sgt. Michael Blokhius, a computer forensics investigator on the matter of the final key stroke recorded.

Blokhius said he used an advanced software program to determine the final keystroke, which was ?planning qw?, on the computer and when it occurred, which was 5:41, fitting into the investigators timeline of events.

However, defense attorneys argued that Merna Koula may have just stopped what she was doing, gotten up from the computer or stopped working, and had been killed at another time.

Dr. Lindsey Thomas, a forensics pathologist, performed the autopsy on Dennis and assisted with Merna. She testified that both were murdered by bullet wounds to the head and, based on body decomposition, could suggest when they died.

She did say that different factors could affect the bodies? decomposition and it was impossible to tell when they really died.
