BLAST Members Busy At NHS
Saturday, May 19th, 2012 -- 8:11 AM
BLAST members were busy putting on three different presentations on Friday afternoon at Neillsville High School. One of the presentations was Grim Reaper Day. 28 students in the high school were designated as dead. The purpose was to show that every 15 minutes someone is killed due to drunk driving or texting while driving. Tammy Matson, the BLAST coordinator, even had a casket in the lobby of the high school and some of the parents of the dead children wrote good-bye letters to their kids.
They also participated in a mock accident. Some students were transported by ambulance, another in a helicopter and one was killed and loaded into the back of a hearse. The crowd was very silent as they watched the victim loaded into the back of the hearse.
The students also listened to a guest speaker after the mock accident and they received keys to represent keeping themselves and a friend safe.
The BLAST members did an excellent job on these emotionally powerful presentations.
