Stanley Inmate Assaults Prison Guards
Friday, May 18th, 2012 -- 9:10 AM
-The Stanley community is wondering what has caused the latest in a string of guard assaults at the Stanley Correctional Institution. In the most recent attack, a male inmate hurt four guards in a housing unit of the prison as they tried to restrain him.
Officers have now reported injuries to seven different guards in three separate incidents in just over a month.
Chief Russell Kollmansberger says officers responded to the prison just after 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. He says the man wouldn't follow the prison's rules and was acting aggressively toward a guard. Kollmansberger said the inmate wasn't using a weapon and he was sprayed with what police call an "incapacitating agent." That's when the inmate flailed his arms and the guards were kicked and punched as they subdued and restrained the man.
They were taken to the hospital, with non-life threatening injuries, treated, and released that same day.
Kollmansberger says he's not sure why three guard assaults have happened in a little more than a month.
