-The sour economy has many seeking efficient ways to reduce costs at home, whether it's a new water heater or just turning off lights.According to the Marshfield News Herald, even as people reach greater efficiency, there is a balance to be struck between the consumer savings and the revenue utility companies need to stay in business.
The Wisconsin Public Service Corp.'s proposed 2013 rate increase is a sign of that struggle.
The rate increase will affect 60,000 WPSC customers in Marathon County, 80,000 in Portage County and 6,372 in Wood County.
The request made to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for a maximum 9.2 percent electric and 3.7 percent natural gas rate increase was attributed to decreased revenues caused by consumer efficiency and the economic slowdown
