-The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is investigating after an inmate assaulted two correction officers in Stanley.According to WEAU, the attack happened Monday at the Stanley Correctional Institution.
Stanley Police Chief Russel Kollmansberger says he got the report of a non-weapon assault at the facility just after 9 a.m.
Initially, a female correctional officer was attacked after letting a male inmate out of his cell to search for contraband.
The inmate had become belligerent while he was in the dayroom area and he approached an officer and began to assault her. Public information officer Tim LeMonds said, ?Our correctional officers did a textbook perfect job of neutralizing the situation. We take any assault very seriously.?
In the midst of breaking up the short-lived chaos, a male prison guard was also attacked.
Both guards were taken to the hospital and released on the same day and Chief Kollmansberger says it is a situation that doesn?t happen often.
This isn?t the first time the Stanley prison has made headlines. Two years ago, two inmates escaped after forging release documents.
However, even with these incidents, most Stanley residents feel safe.
