Canvasing of April 3rd Election Results Finished

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012 -- 9:17 AM

-The County Clerk?s office finished canvasing results from the recent April 3rd elections.

A new law passed by the legislature allows counties until the Friday after the election to turn in any absentee or outstanding ballots. Clark County received just a small portion of the absentee ballots before the Friday deadline.

Canvassing the election results also gives the County Clerk the opportunity to find any errors that might have been made in entering the results.

For the most part, the absentee ballots did not make a large difference. However, they did help decide two ties that had occurred in the recent election.

Originally, it was reported that in the District 12 County Supervisor race, Art Petke and Clark Turner had tied with a 50-50 vote. However, because of outstanding ballots, Art Petke won the race 70 to 59.

For the District 24 County Supervisor race Dale Mitte and Don Kirn had a tied vote of 120-120. However, after outstanding ballots were accounted for, Dale Mitte won with 122 votes.

We will have the final April 3rd election results on our website as soon as they become available.
