Senator Moulton Pleased with Last Legislative Session

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012 -- 8:43 AM

-Senator Moulton was very pleased with the results of the last legislative session.

Senator Moulton highlighted improvements made in Wisconsin's budget. "We inherited a 3.6 billion dollar budget deficit, but we balanced it without increasing taxes. We paid off 800 million dollars in debt, and eliminated the structural deficit. We also eliminated a lot of the bureaucratic red tape that comes with the budget."

Senator Moulton also elaborated about jobs. Wisconsin's jobless rate is down to 6.9%, which is the lowest it has been since 2008. "Many Wisconsin business owners believe we're moving in the right direction and that's exciting. I'm excited to see where Wisconsin goes from here."

Senator Moulton went on to highlight a couple other bills he authored and was pleased they passed. One was the lifting the Family Care enrollment caps, which, ?in the long term, will help people get more affordable care in their homes rather than going to a nursing home.?

The other was allowing the DNR to create a wolf hunting season in order to help with 'Wisconsin's' ailing deer population and help business that are not seeing as much foot traffic because of poor hunts.

Senator Moulton said, "We still have a lot of work to do, but Wisconsin is moving in the right direction and I am looking forward to the future of our state."

The majority of the bills in the last legislative session were passed with bipartisan support. The legislature will reconvene for a new session in January 2013.
