Governor Evers Grants More Pardons

(WMTV) Gov. Tony Evers granted pardons to 37 Wisconsinites Wednesday to give “folks second chances” in the Badger State.
“From mistakes made as teenagers to desperate times as they struggled with homelessness or substance misuse, what we have seen overwhelmingly from applicants is a desire to move forward, give back, and make peace with their pasts,” Gov. Evers said.
According to a news release, the Governor’s Pardon Advisory Board heard from applicants on Dec. 11, 2020 and then again on Jan. 8. The Board then forwarded their recommendation on which applicants to pardon to Gov. Evers for final consideration.
The governor has granted 144 pardons total. People may apply for a pardon if they completed their sentence at least five years ago and have not committed any new crimes. The governor’s office also noted that a pardon does not result in an expungement.
