Clark County Register of Deeds, Lois Hagedorn is cautioning citizens to beware of letters being sent to new property owners by Record Retrieval Department in Madison. The letter makes people believe they have to obtain a copy of their deed and property profile from Record Retrieval by paying an $87 processing fee. The company explains the property file will provide the homeowner with the property address, owner's name, legal description and parcel indentification number. Hagedorn advises these items are public information provided free of charge and Hagedorn says the Register of Deeds office can provide you with a copy of your deed for $2 to $3 depending on the number of pages. Most homeowners may already have the original deed from when they purchased their property.
If you do need a copy of your deed or any recorded real estate document, simply visit the Register of Deeds Office in Room 303 of the Clark County Courthouse or call 715-743-5163.
