SALES OF NEW VEHICLES ROSE IN 2011

Sales of new vehicles in Wisconsin rose by 15.5% in 2011.Truck sales were up 16% while car sales were up 15%. Automakers will be offering their first assessment today of whether the auto sector's recovery is continuing.
Jess Toprak of Truecar.com says the new cars that consumers have to choose from in the U.S. market is the best collection of cars we've had by far. With gas prices remaining above $3 a gallon, a J.D. Power study finds that gas mileage is the most influential reason for purchasing a particular vehicle model in 2012.
Government estimates show Americans spent roughly $40 billion more on new cars and trucks in 2011 than in 2009. And as the U.S. vehicle fleet continues to age, it could create demand for new vehicles. According to a marketing firm, the average age of a car in the U.S. last year was 11.1 years, while the average age of a truck was 10.4 years old.
