Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 -- 6:49 AM
Parents who want to send their children to a public school outside of their home district can submit applications beginning Monday, Feb. 6.Current law gives parents just three weeks to apply for the open enrollment program. But a bill already passed by the Legislature and awaiting Gov. Scott Walker's signature will extend that period to three months. Department of Public Instruction spokesman Patrick Gasper says they are confident the new law will be signed soon, making the application deadline April 30.
Parents can submit applications to send their children to up to three non-resident school districts and they are encouraged to apply online.
