GET MONEY BACK WITH THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT

Monday, January 30th, 2012 -- 8:46 AM

Many workers may be able to get money back from the government through the Earned Income Tax Credit.

In 2010, 377,992 Wisconsin families received an average of $2,007 or a total of $759 million from the IRS in earned income credits. Christopher Miller of the IRS says families earning $49,078 or less from wages, self-employment or farming in 2011 are urged to see if they qualify for the credit.

In tax year 2011 the maximum credit that can be returned is $5,751 for a family with three or more qualifying children. Miller said the amount a family can receive depends on the number of children, parental status, marital status and other requirements.
