BEAR POPULATION HAS STOPPED GROWING
Thursday, January 26th, 2012 -- 8:50 AM
DNR officials say the Wisconsin's bear population has stopped growing. This comes after several years of very bear numbers. To deal with the declining numbers, the DNR is setting a harvest target of 4,600 this year. Kris Belling from the Wisconsin DNR says hunters are still satisfied with the number of bears they're seeing, but the DNR is putting the brakes on a little so that they don't take the population down too far.
The State Natural Resources Board approved the harvest target plan on Wednesday.
