Drowned Man Identified

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 -- 12:16 PM

Marathon County officials have identified the Stratford man who drowned in the Big Eau Pleine flowage on Saturday as Timothy Spindler. The 34-year-old Spindler and 30-year-old William Bowden of Stratford were ice fishing on Saturday--and as they left, their car either fell through thin ice or drove into open water.

The accident happened at 7:30 Saturday night under the Halder Bridge near Lisa's Landing. Witnesses told police that Bowden was driving, but he's disputing that claim.

And locals tell us Bowden would've had to drive into open water, because it's almost never frozen under the bridge. Spindler's body was recovered by the Marathon County dive team just before three o'clock Sunday afternoon.
