City Tax Bills Out Soon

Neillsville, Wis. - CWB News -- Just in time for Christmas, Neillsville officials say you should get a present from them next week. Property tax bills will be mailed to city residents Friday. There is some good news: the overall mil rate for city residents will be down $3 compared to last year. But Deputy City Clerk/Treasurer Ellen Clark says that might be a bit deceiving. The city was reassessed this past year, so some property owners might see their valuations increase substantially, negating the decrease in the tax rate.
If you pay your taxes in one lump sum, it?s due to your local municipality by January 31st. If you split your tax bill in half, the first half is due to your local municipality by January 31, 2012 and the 2nd half is due to the county by July 31st, 2012.
The penalty for not paying on time is 1.5 percent interest, per month, according to Clark.
The Clerk's office will be open for tax collection during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Tax payment collection will begin Monday, December 19th.
