BROWN COUNTY BONES ORIGINALLY BURIED ELSEWHERE
Sunday, December 11th, 2011 -- 6:49 AM
A report says human bones found last month at a Brown County construction site were originally buried elsewhere. The report was submitted this week to the Wisconsin Historical Society.
The remains were found November 1st about 6-7 feet below ground at the site for a new Harley Davidson dealership near U.S. Highway 41.
State archaeologist John Broihahn tells the Green Bay Press Gazette that former landowners say different fills from other sources were brought in to raise the ground level. Broihahn says at some point the remains were brought in and dumped in that location.
The site was previously a farm. The farmstead was torn down around 1993 and remained vacant until a restaurant was built there in 2005.
Investigators are now trying to determine where the remains were first buried.
