Local Businesses Should Be First Holiday Shopping Stop

Now that the Black Friday hub-bub is over area retailers hope shoppers will look local for their Christmas shopping."It's been shown that out of every $100 that's spent, $70 stays in the community," explains Deanna Heiman, Executive Director of the Neillsville Chamber of Commerce. "Whether it's payroll, advertising supplies or other expenses."
Local businesses she talks with are very bullish about this Holiday season. "Last weekend, they experienced between a ten and 20 percent increase over last year's sales," she reports.
Heiman says the local shopping experience can be improved with some dialogue between customer and business owner. If a store doesn?t have what you?re looking for, don?t assume they're not able to get it.
"Make sure you mention that to your local retailer, that there's this item that makes me leave Neillsville to purchase it. Then maybe they'd consider having that brand or product you desire in their own business," she says.
If you want your gift-giving to help the local economy, she says Chamber Gift Certificates are a great way to do it. They can be used to purchase products and services through any of the organization?s 135 members.
