Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 -- 1:58 PM
The defense team of a Neillsville graduate accused of killing his parents was dealt a couple blows Monday.Eric Koula is accused of shooting and killing Dennis and Myrna Koula at their home in Barre Mills in May 2010.
Eric Koula?s attorneys had filed a motion to suppress testimony that Dennis Koula told his brother that he "was done" giving money to his children. The statement was made just days before the murders, and prosecutors argued it was crucial information to help the jury understand Eric Koula's mindset.
A judge ruled Monday that the statement is admissible evidence.
Prosecutors allege Eric Koula committed the grisly act out of a desperate need for cash and say he forged his father's name and deposited a check in his account the day after the murders.
The judge also agreed with the prosecution that the jury should be allowed to tour the home.
The jury trial is slated to begin December 5.
