SMART GROWTH 'OPT OUT' BILL MOVING THROUGH ASSEMBLY; STALLED IN SENATE?
Thursday, October 27th, 2011 -- 10:41 AM
A bill that would eliminate a state requirement that local communities have comprehensive plans is breezing through the Assembly, but hasn?t gotten off the ground in the State Senate.AB 303 was passed out of committee on a 5-4 vote on Tuesday and moved to the Committee on Rules, which meets Thursday. It?s possible they will schedule it for a vote before the full Assembly during their session next Tuesday.
But a companion bill in the Senate is still waiting to be scheduled for a hearing in front of the Committee on Economic Development and Veterans and Military Affairs.
It was referred to the committee on October 6th.
That committee met on Wednesday, but the bill still hasn?t been scheduled for a hearing and they have no other meetings scheduled.
An identical version of the bill must pass through committee, both houses of the legislature and be signed by the Governor before it becomes law.
The Clark County Board shot down a proposed comprehensive plan earlier this month, apparently in the expectation that this legislation will pass.
