BIG WEEKEND IN HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

There is a lot of high school sports action this weekend.It all started last night as the WIAA Football Play-offs began. In Division 1, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln defeated Hudson 12-0. In Division 2, Marshfield defeated Merrill 43-7. In Division 3, Mosinee defeated Seymour 41-14. In Division 5, Colby blanked Elk Mound 42-0 and Stanley-Boyd defeated Rib Lake/Prentice 44-27. In Division 6, Eau Claire Regis downed Boyceville 21-0 and Pittsville topped Wild Rose 36-20.
The Edgar WIAA Sectional Cross Country Meet was held yesterday at Nine Mile Recreation Area.
For the boys, Marathon was the team champion with Auburndale finishing second as a team. Individually for the boys, Andrew Studinski of Marathon was the winner in a time of 17:01. Area top individual finishers included Cordell Kapusta of Neillsville 9th overall, Jared Genteman of Loyal 10th overall, Jared Boon of Neillsville 11th overall and Ben Anderson of Loyal 21st overall.
For the girls, Edgar was the team champion with Pittsville finishing second as a team. Individually for the girls, Tory Palmer of Pittsville was the winner in a time of 15:21. Area top individual finishers included Kari Beckman of Pittsville 3rd overall, Claire Pinter of Marshfield Columbus 7th overall, Samantha Fuehrer of Spencer 14th overall, and Taylor Pralle of Pittsville 21st overall.
The top two teams and the top 5 individuals from each boys and girls sectional will advance to the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids next Saturday.
