DNR RECONSIDERS MEGA-DAIRY PERMIT

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is backing off from granting a permit to a huge dairy farm. After receiving a study from a water expert, the DNR says they will reconsider a key permit for Richfield Dairy, a proposed 4,200-cow farm in Adams County.
The dairy's parent company, Milk Source, says they've supplied two studies showing the farm will not impact the local water supply, but a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point hydrogeologist has concluded it would harm local bodies of water and draw down the aquifer.
Milk Source also owns the state's largest dairy farm, Rosendale Dairy, in Fond du Lac County, and operates two other farms.
