MARSHFIELD AUTHORITIES WARN OF SCAM
Wednesday, September 21st, 2011 -- 1:06 PM
The Marshfield Police Department has received three complaints of a person contacting local restaurants attempting to place an order for food items to either be shipped or picked up locally. The calls originate from outside the local area. The person attempts to pay for the items with a credit card number that is either fraudulent or stolen.
Authorities believe the caller hopes to place a large charge on the credit card and then change the order or request a refund by having the business mail or wire the money to them.
They may also ask for the restaurant owner to mail or wire money to another person who will pick up the food.
