GREEN SUPPORTS THOMPSON FOR U.S. SENATE

Former U.S. Rep. Mark Green is backing Tommy Thompson for the U.S. Senate.Thompson hasn't formally announced his candidacy, but he is racking up support from Republican Party leaders. Thompson announced Friday that Green was joining his team as a co-chair along with Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, former Assembly Speaker John Gard, his wife former Treasurer Cate Zeuske and longtime adviser Jim Klauser.
Green served in Congress representing the Green Bay area for eight years before an unsuccessful bid for governor in 2006. He has also served nearly two years as U.S. ambassador to Tanzania.
Green praised Thompson's record during his 14 years as governor and said he would provide "conservative leadership" in Congress.
