IMPORTANT HEADCOUNT FOR STATE SCHOOLS
Friday, September 16th, 2011 -- 1:55 PM
Schools around the state were hoping for good attendance Friday, one of two ?headcount? days."The first Friday in September is our first official count of the school year," explains Greenwood superintendent Jennifer Vogler. "We need to look at Friday and the Thursday before and the Monday after, and we report those into the state."
'Wisconsin's' school funding formula is weighted heavily on student enrollment. Schools receive funding based on a three-year rolling average.
Vogler says they don?t do too much lobbying to get kids in the building on headcount days.
"We always try to get them here no matter what. Hopefully our students are in one or the other days, or all three if possible," she says.
While no one likes to attach dollar figures to students, the current funding formula makes it difficult not to. Vogler says each student is worth about $8,000 to $9,000 in revenue cap flexibility.
