LOCAL CONNECTION TO HIT SHOW

Thursday, September 1st, 2011 -- 10:32 AM

A Neillsville resident has a personal connection to a hit TV show.

NBC?s America?s Got Talent features everything from singers, to magicians to daredevils. The winners are selected by call-in votes from the show?s millions of viewers.

Al Kvitek has been watching with interest this season as two of his grandchildren, 4-year-old Emmy and 7-year-old Brady, are part of the Silhouettes. Watch video here!

"Their dance group dances up on stage with lights, so their silhouettes are showing through to the crowd," he describes.

The troupe made it through a gauntlet of qualifying rounds and are now competing in Hollywood.

"We've been enjoying watching them on TV," he says, "and it's now down to the last ten."

The competition is pretty fierce, but Kvitek says observers have ranked the Silhouettes as one of the favorites. On the line is $1 million and a headline show on the Las Vegas Strip.

"We don't really know where this is going to take the kids, but it's fun to dream and the kids are having a fun experience," he says. "You watch these TV shows and you really don't know anybody, here it's fun to know it's pretty local."

Kvitek is going to fly out to take in the final performances, which will take place Tuesday night at 8 p.m. The results will be revealed on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
