An area county is considering charging jail inmates for room and board. On Tuesday, the Wood County Board will take up a resolution that would force inmates to pay up to $33 per day to offset the increasing cost of incarceration.
According to the the Marshfield NewsHerald, the charge would be phased in. Inmates would pay $2 per day the first year, but could eventually face charges of over $30 per day.
The jail accounts for around $2.5 million of the Sheriff?s Department?s $9 million annual budget.
