CLARK CO. UNEMPLOYMENT UP IN JUNE

Thursday, July 28th, 2011 -- 12:07 PM

There was a bit of setback in the state's local jobs report for June.

According to data from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, 64 of the state's 72 counties saw their unemployment rates stay the same or increase over the month. Still, compared to a year ago, rates were lower in 49 counties and unchanged in three. Menominee County had the highest rate at 20.6 percent, and Dane County, the lowest, 5.8 percent.

Clark County?s unemployment rate jumped three-tenths of a percent, from 8.0% in May to 8.3% in June. But because other counties were losing jobs at a faster rate, Clark County?s unemployment rank actually improved from 33 highest, to 37 highest.

Elsewhere in the area, Wood County?s rank shot from 41 to 28 as its unemployment rate exploded from 7.6% to 8.7%; Jackson County?s unemployment rate is 8.4% and Marathon County?s rate is 8.1%.
