NEW INFORMATION ON FATAL FIRE IN CURTISS

Thursday, July 21st, 2011 -- 10:52 AM

Authorities have released more information about Wednesday?s fatal house fire in Curtiss, including the names of the two victims.

The Clark County Sheriff?s Department received a 9-1-1 call shortly after midnight reporting a house on Meridian Street was on fire.

When crews arrived, they found the front half of the home fully engulfed in flames.

It appears the fire started near the front porch of the residence.

The victims were awakened by the odor of smoke and the family dog.

79-year-old Melvin Lauersdorf was able to escape out a back door and summon a neighbor for help, but his wife, 75-year-old Sandra Lauersdorf, and their 52-year-old daughter, Debra Lauersdorf, were not able to escape.

They were later located by firefighters inside the residence.

All three residents were transported to St. Joseph?s Hospital in Marshfield where Sandra and Debra were pronounced dead.

The investigation continues, but foul play is not suspected.
