CONCEALED CARRY WILL GO INTO EFFECT
Sunday, July 3rd, 2011 -- 10:20 AM
We now know when Wisconsinites will be legally able to carry concealed weapons.Gov. Scott Walker plans to sign a bill allowing Wisconsin residents to carry concealed weapons on Friday, July 8 in Wausau.
The state Department of Justice would have until Sept. 1 to design permit applications. People could begin applying as soon as the application forms are ready and could start carrying concealed on Nov. 1.
The bill allows people who obtain a permit and get training to carry concealed weapons in most public buildings unless a sign says weapons aren't permitted. The weapons would be barred anywhere within 1,000 feet of school grounds, police stations, jails and prisons, courthouses, secure mental health facilities, and beyond airport security checkpoints.
