ABBY RESIDENTS BRACE FOR SEWER RATE INCREASES

A decision by Abbotsford?s biggest water user to install a private sewer system will lead to a big cost jump for everyone else.Meat processor Abbyland Foods has stopped discharging wastewater into the city system. As a result, the utility will lose almost $250,000 in annual revenue.
Residential users' sewer rates will jump 72-percent beginning tomorrow, to offset the lost revenue.
The increase will cost the average user an extra $20 per month.
