CITY GRANTS PROPOSED CHILD CARE CENTER $15K

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011 -- 12:55 PM

On Tuesday night, the Neillsville City Council approved a $15,000 grant for a proposed childcare center.

Neillsville mayor Dewey Poeschel said at a prior meeting the Stepping Stones Early Learn Center plans to be licensed to care for up to 50 children. They also plan to hire 8 full-time employees.

The grant money will have to be paid back if Stepping Stones doesn?t stay in business for at least three years and maintain 8 full-time employees.

Poeschel said last night the $15,000 will help them get start-up financing.

The Council also approved a confidentiality agreement with Mayville Engineering Corporation, which owns Fabricating Specialists. No details of the confidentiality agreement were released.

The council also approved a study of city?s antiquated water system controls. The study will cost up to $15,000. The automated system controls the functions of the treatment plant, booster station and the city?s wells, which are located 9 miles south of Neillsville. An upgrade of the system could cost around $100,000.
