CLARK, JACKSON CO. HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS WORK TOGETHER
Tuesday, June 28th, 2011 -- 10:12 AM
Clark and Jackson counties already share a Highway Commissioner, now they might share machinery, too.The Clark County Highway Department was to act Tuesday on an agreement that will allow the two counties to jointly purchase and share machinery.
"We'd be taking a look at paver rollers, rubber tire rollers, shoulder machines, salt/sand conveyors, portable oil tanks," lists joint Highway Commissioner Randy Anderson.
Anderson says the arrangement should save hundreds of thousands of dollars over time.
"When you look at a paver that's $350,000, it's hard to for a single county to justify purchasing a new one," Anderson points out. "So, in order to keep our machinery more current, if we combine two counties, or several counties, to purchase it, we can definitely make ourselves more cost efficient."
The arrangement will be helped by the fact Anderson does the scheduling for both counties? highway work.
