An area lawmaker has issued a press release taking credit for job creation, but he cites a report that shows unemployment rates increased in almost every Wisconsin city in May.A report from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development released Wednesday shows that unemployment rates increased in 25 cities with a population of 25,000 people or more. Only Stevens Point saw rates drop, from 7.9% to 7.8%.
"The pro-growth, job friendly environment that my Republican colleagues and I in the legislature have championed this session is paying real dividends," states Rep. Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford).
Suder points to the fact Clark County?s unemployment rate improved by .4% as evidence Republican initiatives are working. At 8%, Clark County still has the 33rd highest unemployment rate in the state.
Dane County had the lowest unemployment for the month at 5.1% with Menominee County the highest at 18.1%.
Unemployment statewide was 7.4% in May.
