Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 -- 1:54 PM
A big summer road construction project is underway in Neillsville.American Asphalt of Wisconsin began a repair and resurfacing of STH 73 (Hewett Street) Monday. The road will be milled and repaved from the intersection of USH 10 to Bieneck Road, just north of the city limits, but there won?t be any work from 4th Street to the O?Neill Creek Bridge.
"(They're) lowering the manholes around the city getting ready for the milling machine to come in later this week to start milling off the roadway, getting ready for paving," explains project supervisor Jason Weiker.
Hewett Street might be restricted to one lane of traffic at times on Thursday, when the milling machine begins its work.
The street will be closed for two weeks, beginning Friday. Traffic will be detoured to CTH G and CTH H?but locals will be able to find much shorter routes around the work.
American Asphalt has set up several public meeting to discuss the project schedule of operations including vehicular and pedestrian access during construction.
The next meeting will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Neillsville City Hall.
