'CONVOY' RAISES MONEY FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Monday, June 13th, 2011 -- 11:40 AM

We had ourselves a convoy Saturday.

The 14th annual Make-A-Wish Truck Convoy pushed off from the Clark County Fairgrounds Saturday at noon.

Organizer Punk Montgomery said the event brings in trucks from all over the U.S. and even some from Canada.

"We get between 68 and 72 semis. 4-wheelers, trucks, cars and pick-ups, we get between 10 and 20 of those," Montgomery says. "We get a pretty good turnout."

The event raised around $1,200 the first year. Last year they brought in nearly $12,000.

And it?s all for a great cause. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to kids with life-threatening medical conditions?

"They grant wishes to kids living in the county where the money is raised, and then they go to the surrounding counties," Montgomery explains.

Pictures of past events show the convoy spreads out over nearly five miles of road, and after 14 years Montgomery says the event shows no signs of slowing down.
