HEWETT STREET SET FOR FACELIFT

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011 -- 12:28 PM

Neillsville city residents are preparing for a big road construction project that?s scheduled to begin on June 13th.

American Asphalt of Wisconsin is set to begin a repair and resurfacing of STH 73 (Hewett Street) from the intersection of USH 10 to Bieneck Road, just north of the city limits. They won?t do any work from 4th Street to the O?Neill Creek Bridge.

The road will be closed for two weeks, beginning June 17th, according to Project Superintendent Jason Weiker.

"There's going to be a two-week closure until (July 1) to get the bulk of the work done," he explains. "There are four culvert pipes being replaced, milling that concrete off and getting the first layer of asphalt on.

The crews will finish up the final layer of asphalt after July 4th.

Traffic on STH 73 will be detoured to CTH G and CTH H?but locals will be able to find much shorter routes around the work.

American Asphalt has set up several public meeting to discuss the project schedule of operations including vehicular and pedestrian access during construction.

"Hopefully, most of the people will ask me, "how can I get to my house or business?" They'll always be able. Even though the road is closed, there will still be a lane open for them to get to their house," he says.

The first meeting will be next Thursday, June 9th at 5 p.m. at the Neillsville City Hall.
