MMC RECEPTIONIST WINS STATEWIDE AWARD

Friday, May 20th, 2011 -- 3:17 PM

A familiar face for area residents has received a statewide award for her ?employee pride.?

Linda Wright, Granton, has worked for 29 years as a medical receptionist at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

She recently received the Wisconsin Hospital Association?s Employee Pride Recognition Award.

Anyone that?s visited MMC knows Linda doesn?t just ?punch in and punch out;? she tries to make personal connections with patients.

"You get to know (the patients) personally. You get to know their families, their children. Watch them grow up," she says. "That's one of the fun parts, too: seeing the babies born and watching them grow into young adults and go out into the world."

Her philosophy on dealing with patients boils down to following the Golden Rule.

"I just laugh with them and have a good time, when they're in pain. You aren't always chipper, but you get to work with them and bring them around. It's fun to watch that happen," Wright explains.

And then there?s what most people recognize about Linda: that accent.

"I get asked a lot, 'did you just move here?' and I say, no, I've lived here 30-some years," she jokes.

If you're wondering, it's a West Virginian accent.

The Wisconsin Hospital Association?s annual Employee Pride Recognition Program is designed to celebrate the health care workforce and recognize their contributions to the health of their communities.
