The family gets back here often to visit, but made a more high stakes visit Wednesday night.
Gingrich spoke to about 200 people at Drugan's Castle Mound Country Club in Holmen.
He told reporters his family connections have led him to keep a close eye on Wisconsin politics, and he called Gov. Scott Walker a "role model."
Gingrich made headlines this week when he criticized Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan's Medicare proposal. He later apologized.
