GRANTON SURVEYS TABULATED

Monday, May 16th, 2011 -- 11:44 AM

A Granton school board committee met Sunday to tabulate the results of a survey dealing with the school?s future.

The survey asked residents, parents and staff which area district Granton should work with on a Whole Grade Sharing agreement for the 2012-13 school year.

Roughly 1,000 surveys were sent to district stakeholders, including taxpayers, parents and staff. Around 356 surveys were returned.

Based on the results, the Committee will formally make a recommendation to the Granton School Board that they negotiate a Whole Grade Sharing agreement with Loyal, Marshfield and Neillsville.

The committee will also share the results of the survey with the school board, but recommend the tallies be kept confidential for now, to assure the district the best chance to enter these negotiations on a level playing field.

Under a Whole Grade Sharing agreement, a district sends whole grades of students?for example: all high schoolers?to another school and pays that school a tuition. Whole Grade Sharing can also be ?two-way,? meaning a school district can send students to another school, and that other school can send certain grades of students back to them.
