A federal judge has sentenced a Stevens Point man to probation for defrauding a Sony Corporation sales incentive program.According to court documents, 43 year old Daniel Weiler worked as a manager at Furniture & ApplianceMart. He was fired in June 2007, but he continued to submit fake sales invoices on Sony products to collect reward payments.
He made $2.5 million worth of claims between August 2007 and March 2008, collecting about $73,500 from SHC Direct, the company that managed the incentive program.
He pleaded guilty to fraud in February. His attorney said in a sentencing memo that Weiler devised the scheme to support his family.
Judge William Conley sentenced him Thursday to three years probation and six months on home detention. He must also repay the money.
