Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 -- 12:52 PM
The Neillsville Area Chamber of Commerce will get some financial help from the City of Neillsville. The Council voted Tuesday night to use 30% of the proceeds from the 3% room tax for Parks and Recreation within the municipality; the remaining 70% of the available funds will be used to help fund tourism-related events or projects.
40% of that amount?roughly $8,000?will to directly to the Chamber of Commerce.
The other 30% will be awarded in the form of grants designated by the City?s Tourism Committee. A brochure with the grant application guidelines will be available at the City Hall.
The 3% tax was approved in 2008 and went into affect at the city?s 3 hotels on January 1, 2009.
The city budgeted to receive about $10,000 from the tax this year.
