Monday, May 9th, 2011 -- 11:39 AM
There could be a large crowd at a Public Hearing in the Village of Merrillan Tuesday (May10).The village?s Municipal Electric and Water Utility has filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to increase water rates. The increases will happen in two steps.
Step I will result in a 47-percent increase to the average user?s monthly water bill. That would push the bill up by about $17 per month, from $21.36 to $38. City officials say the increase is needed to help the utility run in the black.
Step II would increase the average monthly bill to $49.80 per month. The funds would help the village upgrade the water main in conjunction with the STH 12/27 reconstruction.
The telephonic public hearing with the Public Service Commission will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Village Hall meeting room. You can call Village Clerk Debra Green for more information at 715-333-2332.
