FIRE CHIEF: BRF FIRE CAUSED BY SMOKING MATERIALS

The cause of last night?s fire appears to be discarded smoking materials on a wooden deck that was attached to the home.
The estimated fire loss to structure and contents is over $300,000.
The department also did have one firefighter receive medical treatment after he stepped / fell into a basement egress window well during the fire attack that was not covered. The firefighter was treated and released from a local hospital emergency room.

At 22:56 on April 25, 2011 the Black River Falls Fire Department was paged by the Jackson County Emergency Dispatch Center (EDC) for a structure fire at W9480 Oak Ridge Road, which located in the Township of Manchester.
The single family, single story, wood frame, manufactured 28? x 60? home had heavy fire showing upon arrival of the department at 23:08.
The home is owned by Zane and Lisa Flick who along with their teenage daughter were home at the time of the fire. The owners report hearing a loud pop and upon investigation found the front of the home on fire in the area of an attached deck.
The family exited the home and placed a 911 call to the EDC to report the fire.
The home did not have smoke alarms in place.
The fire cause and a damage estimate for property and contents are not known at this time. The home has heavy smoke and heat throughout.
The home is insured and the Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
Eleven firefighters were on the scene for 2.25 hours.
There were no reported injuries by firefighter or civilians.
