GYPSY MOTH SPRAYING TO BEGIN
Sunday, April 24th, 2011 -- 11:12 AM
The state will be taking to the air in our area to fight the spread of the Gypsy Moth. The Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection says they?ll be flying in our area soon, spraying a product known as Btk, which interferes with the caterpillars? digestive system. Some sites in Clark, Eau Claire and Jackson County may also be sprayed with a virus called Gypchek. Both products are harmless to humans.
The planes will start spraying around the state in May and wrap up in early to mid-June.
Gypsy moths multiply rapidly and damage or kill trees and have been linked to some human health problems, as well.
The planes will fly low to the treetops and can be pretty loud.
