SEVERE WEATHER A POSSIBILITY THIS WEEKEND

Saturday, April 9th, 2011 -- 8:14 AM

Our first taste of severe weather this spring arrives this weekend, and it has the potential to produce large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP ALONG AND NORTH OF A WARM FRONT TONIGHT. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL. MINOR FLOODING WILL REMAIN A CONCERN ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WHERE WATER LEVELS CONTINUE TO SLOWLY RISE TOWARD OR FURTHER ABOVE FLOOD STAGE.
A SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EVENT STILL LOOKS POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AS A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH THE REGION. THUNDERSTORMS SPAWNED BY THIS SYSTEM WILL BE CAPABLE OF DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND SOME TORNADOES.
ON MONDAY AFTERNOON...STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BE FOUND ACROSS THE AREA. SUSTAINED WINDS WILL BE IN THE 20 TO 30 MPH RANGE...AND WIND GUSTS WILL RANGE FROM 30 TO 40 MPH.
